MedGlobal Urges VP Kamala Harris at the DNC to Support Immediate Ceasefire and Unimpeded Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

CHICAGO – As Democrats convene in Chicago to officially nominate Vice President Kamala Harris as their presidential candidate, MedGlobal, a leading Chicago-based medical aid organization, calls on Harris to advocate for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and other critical humanitarian measures, including opening border crossings, increasing aid and protecting healthcare centers.
MedGlobal operates a dozen healthcare clinics and malnutrition stabilization centers in Gaza, serving 3,000 patients daily, most of whom are internally displaced. The organization has also conducted multiple medical missions in Gaza since January.
MedGlobal’s President and Co-Founder Dr. Zaher Sahloul released the following statement:
“During my meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House in April, she expressed deep empathy for Palestinian civilians and children — and committed to a permanent ceasefire, increased aid, and the rebuilding of Gaza. Since then, the situation in Gaza has worsened dramatically, with polio resurfacing for the first time in decades due to the healthcare system’s collapse. It’s crucial that Vice President Harris’ words are transformed into concrete actions to immediately stop the war, rebuild Gaza and heal traumatized communities.”
MedGlobal urges Vice President Harris to advance the following urgent measures during the DNC convention in Chicago, home to one of the largest Palestinian American communities in the U.S.:
- An immediate ceasefire, or at the very least a humanitarian pause, to enable among other things two critical rounds of polio vaccinations for children.
- Full and unimpeded humanitarian access, including re-opening all border-crossings
- Protection of civilians and aid workers, regardless of their location.
- Prioritization of famine response with intensified aid delivery and specialized services.
- Restoration of essential public services, including water and electricity.
