MedGlobal Urges Harris, Trump To Commit to Ending Gaza War During Debate
CHICAGO – Ahead of the debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, MedGlobal, a leading U.S.-based humanitarian organization operating nearly 20 healthcare and nutrition clinics in Gaza, is calling on both candidates to use the debate stage to take a definitive and morally consistent stand on the war in Gaza – and the need to bring it swiftly to an end.
Dr. Zaher Sahloul, President of MedGlobal, issued the following statement:
“This is no time for silence or vague promises. With the war in Gaza now in its 11th month and the ongoing, relentless violence claiming over 40,000 lives, the debate gives both candidates a critical chance to commit unequivocally to using the full power of the presidency to end the war, secure the release of hostages and stop the senseless killing of innocent Palestinians.”
“Vice President Harris and former President Donald Trump should also lay out a decisive plan for Gaza’s post-war reconstruction to prevent further instability, a refugee crisis and prolonged suffering.”
Dr. Sahloul, who is available for print and broadcast interviews before and after the debate, urges Harris and Trump to:
- Acknowledge the humanity of the Palestinian people as well as the Israeli people and adopt a morally consistent stance.
- Provide a concrete plan for a lasting ceasefire and the release of all hostages.
- Commit to leveraging the power of the presidency to stop the war and save lives.
- Outline a comprehensive strategy for Gaza’s post-war reconstruction to prevent further chaos, displacement, and human suffering.
