MedGlobal Calls for Urgent Aid for Syrian Refugees Amid Escalating War in Lebanon

In response to the escalating bombardments and reports of an imminent Israeli ground invasion in Lebanon, Dr. Zaher Sahloul, a Syrian American physician and president of the humanitarian organization MedGlobal, is drawing attention to the urgent needs facing Syrian refugees and other vulnerable populations in Lebanon:

“The intensifying war in Lebanon has forced 100,000 Lebanese and Syrian families to flee into war-torn Syria in search of safety. Syrian refugees, in particular, are enduring unimaginable hardships, returning to a homeland still entrenched in conflict. Many are trapped at the border, unable to pay the $100 exchange fee required to enter Syria. Immediate action must be taken to lift these barriers and provide essential support, such as food, water, and shelter.”

“There are also widespread reports of Syrian refugees in Lebanon being denied access to shelter centers, with many now sleeping on roadsides, exposed to the elements. This only compounds the trauma for communities already scarred by years of relentless displacement. It is crucial that the Lebanese government, UNHCR, and other humanitarian agencies act swiftly to provide the protection and support these refugees urgently need. Every person, regardless of nationality, deserves to be treated with dignity and compassion during this crisis.”
