MedGlobal Demands Protection of Rohingya Refugees Amid Bangladesh Unrest
Political turmoil endangers lives and hampers humanitarian aid efforts
Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh — Amid political unrest in Bangladesh, leading international NGO MedGlobal calls for the protection of Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar district. Following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable communities in Bangladesh is crucial.
Nearly one million Rohingya refugees, who fled what the U.N. has described as “textbook ethnic cleansing” in Myanmar, are living in dire conditions in the refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar, with more than half being women and girls.
MedGlobal’s Country Director for Bangladesh, Syed Muhammad Ferdousuzzaman said:
“For weeks, violence and instability across Bangladesh has impacted MedGlobal’s ability to provide health services to Rohingya refugees. We urge the authorities to restore peace as soon as possible so humanitarian workers can continue providing essential aid to nearly one million Rohingya refugees.”
MedGlobal has been operating in Bangladesh since October 2017, providing critical healthcare services to Rohingya refugees and extensive training programs for medical professionals. Additionally, MedGlobal responds to natural disasters in the Cox’s Bazar district with emergency relief and mobile medical teams.
