MedGlobal Reacts to Limited Polio Vaccination Pauses, Calls for Ceasefire and Full Compliance

CHICAGO –  MedGlobal, a leading medical aid NGO, announced its response to the World Health Organization’s agreement with Israel to allow limited pauses in fighting in Gaza for the vaccination of 640,000 children against polio.

MedGlobal is set to participate in the vaccination campaign beginning on September 1, with eight of the organization’s medical treatments points in Gaza administering vaccines.

MedGlobal’s Co-Founder Dr. John Kahler released the following statement:

“MedGlobal welcomes the U.N.’s agreement with Israel for limited pauses in fighting to allow urgent polio vaccinations in Gaza. Although a critical step to protect hundreds of thousands of children from a devastating disease, it’s far from enough. These pauses are fraught with deadly mistakes, making it essential that every detail of this deal is respected by all parties.”

“What’s truly needed is a permanent ceasefire so that the humanitarian and international community can begin the vital work of post-war recovery. The population is deeply traumatized, and the endless suffering, attacks on civilians, and violations of international law must end immediately.”

Dr. Kahler, along with other MedGlobal staff on the ground in Gaza, are available for interviews to discuss the challenges of implementing the polio vaccination campaign and the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire.
