With the brutal death of George Floyd, we are called yet again to pause and reflect and stand in solidarity with the victims of police violence, an epidemic that has been affecting mostly young Black men, a disease that is rooted in 400 years of systemic racism in the US. 

“We must reflect on the entrenched racism and apathy rampant within our organizations and communities,” said Dr. Zaher Sahloul, President of MedGlobal. “We start with ourselves and join those who care about the future and wellbeing of our communities.”

“To fulfill our vision of building a world without healthcare disparity, we have provided healthcare in areas where the effects of state power and state sanctioned violence have been clear and evident,” said Dr. John Kahler,  Cofounder and Board Member. 

MedGlobal medical professionals served the victims of genocide in Myanmar, barrel bombs and chemical weapons in Syria, wars in Iraq and Yemen, the refugees in Greece, and the displaced Venezuelan refugees in Colombia among many others.

“We grieve with the people all over the world- including the victims of wars and genocide in distant places- and with the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery and countless others. We honor and remember all those who have been tragically killed,” said Dr. Hena Ibrahim, Executive Director. 

MedGlobal joins other organizations in calling on policymakers, law enforcement, fellow health professionals, and all people to address structural racism as an urgent public health crisis and work towards accountability.
