A team of U.S. MedGlobal volunteers, including five medical doctors, recently returned from a weeklong medical mission in Cúcuta, Colombia, where they provided crucial healthcare services to more than 600 Venezuelans and Colombians.

Dr. Beverly Tambe, who participated in the mission, said: “No matter which site we went to, when we arrived, there was a long line of patients at the door, waiting to be seen. The experience opened my eyes to how much I take for granted the ability I have to make an impactful difference in the lives of others.”

Cúcuta, the largest land border with Venezuela, serves as a critical point for migrants fleeing deteriorating conditions in their home country. Colombia currently hosts over 2.8 million Venezuelans, with many continuing their journey to the U.S. due to ongoing insecurity in Venezuela.

Since 2020, MedGlobal has been providing essential medical care in Cúcuta through resiliency medical missions, offering more than 9,000 medical consultations aimed at reducing healthcare disparities and supporting the local healthcare system.

MedGlobal also operates a clinic near the Simón Bolívar bridge connecting Venezuela and Colombia, offering general medicine consultations, medications, and ultrasounds.

In addition to their work in Cúcuta, MedGlobal teams also support migrants transiting to the Darién Gap. At a bus terminal in Medellín, Colombia, the organization offers free primary and pediatric care. And in Necoclí, Colombia, the departure port to the Darién Gap, MedGlobal distributes lifesaving kits and rehydration supplies to migrants.
